Client: Creative Conscience Awards (Set by Arts University Bournemouth)
Project: Nature’s Ossuary
Year: 2024
Brief - The Natural World
Create a concept that highlights the urgency of protecting biodiversity and the environment. The project should raise awareness of how human activity impacts ecosystems, encouraging reflection, education, and advocacy around nature preservation.
Objectives
To explore creative ways of communicating the value of biodiversity, draw attention to the scale of environmental loss, and inspire more responsible relationships between people, industry, and the natural world.
Outcome
Inspired by the work of Bruce Mahalski, European bone ossuaries and the need to communicate stark statistics, the project visualised the biodiversity crisis by creating an ossuary for nature. This atmospheric and symbolic installation represented the fact that 1 in 6 of the UK’s 10,000 species are at risk of extinction—transforming hard-to-grasp data into an emotive and memorable experience.
Role
Concept development, research, design execution and visual storytelling—translating data into an impactful installation to raise awareness of biodiversity loss.
